Happy February! Maybe you are like this too but January is the month of purging and organizing for me, more than health goals or any other typical “New Year” focus- January is the moth of de-cluttering! For a few years now I have done something I call the Purge-atory where I donate or throw away a certain amount of objects each day in January. The first year I started smaller with 10 items per day, sometime after that I bumped it up to 20 items a day and last year I did 50 items a day for the first two weeks. FIFTY. You may be thinking that there is no way you can donate or trash 50 items every day and still have items after you’re done but I promise, 50 items comes easily when trash counts- which it does! Old pencils in desks, sheets of paper that have scribbles, a single sock, underwear with holes that needed to be replaced long ago, empty bottles of products, kid’s papers from school that were tossed into a pile, books that are no longer age appropriate, markers that are dried out… the list goes on and on. And you can make your own rules for what counts! I usually hold myself more accountable in the first two weeks focusing on clothes I can live without and not counting trash, this makes it feel WAY for effective right out of the gate which inspires me to purge more in the following weeks but do what you’re comfortable with! Since I wasn’t on social media all of January I will be doing the Purge-atory in Instagram stories the month of February if you’d like to join me!
