But for real, I’ve never seen a more aesthetically pleasing post! Except for maybe the home decor color series which is coming next week

I started this Color Series last year and got a ton of awesome feedback from y’all, so here we are again! Aren’t Fall colors the best? Clothes, makeup, jewelry, shoes, sunglasses, bags, nail polish, coffee mugs, fragrance oils, hair accessories, the gang is all here.

…now we just need the cold weather.

It’s FALL, y’all!

It doesn’t feel like Fall here in Dallas but I’m hoping that this blog post magically makes the cooler weather show its beautiful face. The weather in Savannah, Georgia was just amazing. The cooler temperatures were a result of a cold front but it seriously made our trip! We walked everywhere, saw pretty much the entire city on foot, and made me want to come home and wear ALL the sweaters. While we aren’t quite ready for sweaters here in Texas, I know most of us are in denial and are totally in the Fall spirit… if you can relate than this post is for YOU!

Red’s Weekly Thread!

Hello, friends! We are back in Texas!

Tenth wedding anniversary trip is in the books! As silly and some what dramatic as this is going to sound, I feel like a reset button was pushed after going on this trip. If you were to have asked me if I “needed” this vacation before going I would have told you no, that I am completely fine, balanced etc. And to my defense, that’s how I felt leaving for Cabo… that I didn’t NEED the trip but more so we were doing this trip as a celebratory event for our tenth wedding anniversary. Only after coming back from the trip is when I realized that it wasn’t needed for me but more so for US.

Don’t get me wrong, Mike and I are great. I feel super fortunate to even be able to type out the sentence Mike and I are in a great place in our marriage, because we are! And that alone is truly a blessing. But just because everything seems good, that there are no major issues or outstanding arguments that have yet to be addressed, doesn’t mean that it can’t be better or more in tune. After this trip I realized that a healthy marriage, in my opinion, needs more than five days of undivided attention per three years. It just does. Could we stay married not going a vacation every three years, of course! lol. But I feel like we have not been prioritizing “us” for a hot minute just because it’s the season we are in, young kids + trying to get businesses off the ground, we’re just busy. But I am pledging to be better at making time away for us.

I am pledging to the internet.

If this ranting does anything at all I hope it encourages you to take some time to focus on your spouse as well. I feel like seeing a friend or family member take a vacation or plan a date night sometimes inspires us to do the same, at least it does for me! Mike and I STINK at date nights, something that I also hope to get a little better at now that Vivi is getting a little older, easier, and more independent.

ANYWAY! As much as I think some of you are probably relating to this rambling, this post is not about my marriage and actually about all thing Summer and vacation items for those who may be taking a trip somewhere! Sweet sweet SUMMMAAAA!

We made it to Summer! How are we feeling about it?! I feel like I’m always super pumped for Summer until maybe the third week and then, well, lets just say that I’m excited for school to start back up again come Fall!

This Summer I’m on a new kind of high though because of our whole backyard situation, if you’ve been watching stores then you know that we’ve got a portion of our yard being TURFED hopefully by the end of next week. I stand out in that mud pit every day just dreaming about the yard it one day will become, lol! I’ve gone crazy on Amazon, I’ll admit it… but most of our yard toys didn’t make the move due to the gross state they were in and I’m totally using this yard as an excuse to buy fun outdoor items!

Red’s Weekly Thread: Best of 2020 Edition!

My first newsletter of 2021! Happy new year, everyone!

I sat down to write a little blurb about my thoughts regarding 2020 and honestly, my brain is a jumbled mess. 2020 is kind of a blur to me, as I’m sure it is for most of us. We survived so much, learned new things, got LOTS of quality time with our kiddos (lol) and while it was a year that had some amazing highlights of my life, I’m definitely okay with saying GOODBYE 2020!

Just thinking out loud here, for those who like the more personal chit chat… I do think it’s crazy that for me, personally, 2020 is arguably one of the “biggest” years of my life. I survived filming a television show for HGTV and let me tell ya… it’s a GRIND. I have new respect for people in the entertainment industry that work behind the scenes. The days are crazy long, the jobs are very far from home for some, and they have to be around annoying “talent” like me all day! My day to day on IG looked very different, as I was filming from the backseat of a car 50% of the time since I had to be very careful not to show any of the homes we were working on, and I appreciate all of those who stuck around through it!

I don’t know what the future holds for me and my family. I don’t know if I’ll film a season two or if anything big will come from that experience and I’m totally okay with that Heck, the experience alone was a once in a lifetime opportunity! I do know that I love my Instagram “job” and that the community that we have created in our little corner of the internet will always be at the top of my prayer list! Y’all were here with me before really anything was going on and I love that we get to do this crazy stuff together! God has given me some crazy life experiences and I’m just trying to navigate it the best I can while keeping my focus on Him as well as the health and happiness of my amazing family that he gifted to me. I’m glad you’re here

Red’s Weekly Thread: Last Minute Christmas Edition!

How are we all doing, guys?… are we as stressed as I am because of our procrastination problems? No one? I am just about done with THE list and about to move onto the grocery list, the least fun holiday list of all, right?

This is the last email I’ll be sending out before Christmas, so here is will I will say, thank you. Thank you for being here and spending another year with me. While 2020 had some pretty awful moments, there were so many good ones here in our little online community! 2020 had good moments, y’all, as easy as it is to dwell on the negatives of this year, lets not lose sight of that even on our toughest days! I wish you and your family an AMAZING Christmas, whatever that looks like for you this year, and the best beginning of 2021. I’m so happy that you are walking into 2021 with me and my family and I continue to pray for you and this community. I do feel like this community is one of the biggest blessing in my life! Happy Sunday, everyone! Hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend!

VIVI TURNED TWO! What the heck!? How? We aren’t sure…. feels like we were just in the hospital having her. The first few years fly by and it’s really not fair because those are the sweetest years. We didn’t have a big party considering all the Covid/ filming precautions but the grandparents were able to stop by and drop off gifts which was enough for Viv It was extremely low-key as far as cake and decorations go but full of joy and presents. Happy Sunday, everyone!

Hope you’re having a fantastic weekend! We have had a very much needed chill weekend (I feel like I’m saying that more frequently these days… every weekend is chill!) Today my parents stopped by which is always nice since we still aren’t doing many things with friends yet. We are in need of some socialization for sure!

We just finished our second week of the kids in school and it has been awesome to feel like we have some sort normalcy back, even though we know we are far from normal! Good morning Good MORNING!

I’m very aware that the chances of you reading this in the am are small, but I said it anyways! When do you read blog posts? Or any article for that matter? I do all of my reading at night… and being totally honest, I’m so out of the loop when it comes to Worldly issues right now. I no longer watch the news, nothing against the news, I loved having that little spurt of tv time wake me up in the mornings.

But honestly, it’s just not okay to have playing around my young kiddos right now. Even last year before 2020 wrecked havoc, it was just not appropriate for little ears to hear. Discussing murder and sexual abuse right before their send off to school just felt wildly inappropriate to me (for my family), so we stopped watching the morning news while eating breakfast in 2019. I must say that NOT starting your day hearing all the heaviness in the world was mood changing, for the better! I truly believe that God wants us to not be ignorant, to stand up for the needy and injustice but if you feel the weight of the world’s problems making a negative impact on your soul, TAKE A BREAK. That does not make you a bad person. That does not mean you or weak or do not care.

Proverbs 4:23-27 – Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.

Guard your heart. If you feel that things are taking up too much mental space, it’s okay to step away to regain a positive mindset!

Red’s Weekly Thread: HGTV Show Details!

Happy Monday, guys! WOW! What a weekend! Y’all showered me and my family with so much love regarding the HGTV announcement. If you have been here since September then you already knew this and are probably like, why the second announcement?!

We had an change in who our Executive Producer was at HGTV last year after I had already done my HGTV announcement. I was given the green light to share at that time but new execs had asked me to wait before talking about it further. HGTV has been AMAZING to me in this process and are really being flexible about trying new things with me- aka- allowing me to discuss the show before it airs as well as letting me show you sneak peeks in my stories throughout the process. This is something that they have never allowed before and I am SO appreciative that they are working with me through all of this! The execs I have spoken with way up in the HGTV chain of command have been so down to earth and mostly Moms, just like you and I, with kids running in and out of our zoom calls, LOL!

I truly feel like God has been with me throughout every step of this journey. This started back in April 2018. Over two YEARS ago. At first it was pretty frustrating that things kept popping up to delay this process but now I look back and know that God was working his magic through all of it. I cant imagine filming this months after Vivi was born. I had to leave set while we filmed the pilot to breastfeed which was a complete inconvenience for just about everyone involved but was something that I wanted to do until after she was a year old, just as I had done with my other two children. Filming an entire season with that exclusive breastfeeding schedule would have been extremely stressful considering that Vivi (none of my kids) would take a bottle. We are now completely done with that stage of life, making time away from her extremely less stressful for me and everyone else around me.

Things happened just they way they were suppose to

Not only do we get to skip the usual process of airing the pilot and waiting to see how many views it gets and if it’s well liked by viewers before they want an entire season (we are going straight to series!) but they also asked for an hour long episode instead of the 30 minutes that was originally planned. I remember asking my former exec, “what would I have to do to get an hour time slot?”, to which he replied, “become two people. You’re a solo talent, solo talents only get 30 minutes.” So, I was VERY surprised when this changed! No pressure to perform WHATSOEVER.

Mike and the kiddos will be in every epsiode along side me during our “slices of life” throughout the episodes but the bulk of the show will be the cameras following me as I renovate and design twenty homes for this season. Tony, my GC, and I met when his company replaced the roof of our home for us a few years back. He’s a great guy to do this with as he is super energetic and just fun to be around! I feel truly blessed to have such an awesome team surrounding this show. I consider my producer a real friend, I’ve gotten to know the guys behind the cameras, and seen a small glimpse of how many hard workers it takes to make tv happen. It is not magic done over night, it takes a TON of creative people and very long days to make our fun binge-worthy entertainment come to life! I have learned SO much.

Stay tuned in stories as I continue sharing things daily as I do now but with “behind the scenes” thrown into the mix! I want y’all to be involved in this as much as possible and I will be forever thankful for HGTV for taking chances on me and letting me do some things somewhat “my way”!

Dyson Pros: Best swivel
head of all the vacuums. Light. Weight sits on top of your hand versus under
it. Amazing suction. Is the smallest head so it goes under furniture and my
kitchen cabinets. Has three settings- High Med Low. Cordless. Good size
canister. Lasts 20-25 mins on low/med setting. Works well on all
surfaces.

Dyson Cons: Expensive. Battery life doesn’t last as long on
the High setting.

Bissel Pros: Cordless.
Light weight. All weight is at the head of the vacuum versus at your hand.
Battery lasts 40 minutes. Super easy to dump canister. Good suction. Not as
expensive as the Dyson. Works well on all surfaces.

Bissel Cons: Head is larger than the Dyson, doesn’t fit
under my kitchen cabinets. Only one setting. Smaller canister than the Dyson.

Shark pros: Has a cord so
it will vacuum as long as you need it to. Small head fits under cabinets. Not
as expensive as the Dyson. Works well on all surfaces.

Shark Cons: I really don’t like that the weight is under my
hand, feels heavier than the Dyson. Has a cord. It’s squeaky when it’s rolling
on my hardwood… like, it’s lower in quality compared to Dyson and Bissell’s
smooth swivels and turns.

Bissell Turbo Kid Friendly: I call this vacuum kid friendly
because this vacuum is super light weight, but is still electric making it the
PERFECT vacuum for kids! My kids love helping me in the kitchen with this. I
wouldn’t recommend this for your every day vacuum or using on carpet, it
doesn’t hurt it, just doesn’t work the best!

Red’s Weekly Thread: Quarantine Edition!

Happy Quarantining!

I know we are all going a little crazy now at this point. Personally, I feel like we have to change up our “Work at Home” schedule pretty much weekly at this point. I know I’ve said this so many times but I will forever be grateful for good childcare even more so than I was before! While I really am enjoying the constant family time, especially the time with Mike, good child care is such a blessing that I miss so so much. In case you forgot and need a good reminder, this is temporary! God is in control

MineTan Coconut Self Tanner This was my top pick after experimenting with self tanners this month! EVERYTHING turns me orange, but this brand did not! If you turn orange easily, I’d tell you to give this a shot! I have tried the the Moroccan, Violet, and coconut. A New Recipe to Try!

This is my favorite recipe of ALL TIME. Y’all…. it’s so so SO good and always a crowd favorite! I usually add whatever pasta I have on hand, elbows, spirals, whateva!

White Bean and Chicken Chili

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 large onion, chopped

4 garlic cloves, minced

2 pounds ground chicken

1 teaspoon salt, plus more for seasoning

2 tablespoons ground cumin

1 tablespoon fennel seeds

1 tablespoon dried oregano

2 teaspoons chili powder

3 tablespoons flour

2 (15-ounce cans) cannellini or other white beans, rinsed and drained

1 bunch (about 1 pound) Swiss chard, stems removed, leaves chopped into 1-inch pieces

11/2 cups frozen corn, thawed

4 cups low-sodium chicken stock

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Freshly ground black pepper for seasoning

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

Directions:

In a large heavy-bottomed saucepan or Dutch oven, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the ground chicken, 1 teaspoon salt, cumin, fennel seeds, oregano, and chili powder. Cook, stirring frequently, until the chicken is cooked through, about 8 minutes. Stir the flour into the chicken mixture. Add the beans, Swiss chard, corn, and chicken stock. Bring the mixture to a simmer, scraping up the brown bits that cling to the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Simmer for 55-60 minutes until the liquid has reduced by about half and the chili has thickened. Add the red pepper flakes and simmer for another 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Another small spaghetti tip – If I want to spice up my spaghetti, I will add cream cheese! It makes it nice and creamy! I highly recommend!
